Mohammed Qasim Ashfaq (b. 1982) is a Scottish artist based in London. Drawing on both Islamic and modern art, his sculptures and drawings explore the nature of shape, line and form while foregrounding mark-making materials and processes.
Ashfaq’s edition for Modern Art Oxford was produced to accompany a major site-specific commission by the artist for Modern Art Oxford’s It’s Me to the World, the fourth exhibition in KALEIDOSCOPE, Modern Art Oxford’s 50th anniversary year programme in 2016.
SHIFT is Ashfaq’s first etching. The artist applied his intricate drawing technique to a copper plate, resulting in a highly textured black circle which reflects light in infinite ways. The edition is emulative of the monumental wall drawing Ashfaq produced specifically for Modern Art Oxford’s Upper Gallery.
Exclusively made for Modern Art Oxford, our artist editions are often created to accompany a major exhibition in the galleries.
