Stella Vine’s edition for Modern Art Oxford was produced to accompany her 2007 exhibition Stella Vine: Paintings, the first major UK exhibition of work by the artist, which included around one hundred recent paintings and drawings.
Stella Vine came to international prominence for her large scale bold and brash canvases featuring celebrities like Princess Diana, Pete Doherty, Elizabeth Taylor and Aretha Franklin. Her work addresses the exaggerated and fictionalised portrayal of public figures and associated events in the media, drawing on our obsession with celebrity in contemporary popular culture.
The print, Gölzschtalbrücke, is named after a railway bridge in Germany, the largest brick-built bridge in the world, which became controversial due to its reputation as a place of suicide. In August 2001 three teenagers from Reichenbach in Vogtland tragically took their own lives at the bridge and the note they left behind is the subject matter of this edition.
Exclusively made for Modern Art Oxford, our artist editions are often created to accompany a major exhibition in the galleries. Modern Art Oxford is a charity and all proceeds from the sale of these works directly support our exhibition and education programmes. All editions come with a certificate of authenticity.
