The exhibition The Subject of Painting, held in 1982 and curated by the critic Paul Rodgers, explored contemporary developments in French art, focusing on the discipline of painting through two generations of artists, the oldest of whom started work in the early 1950s. The catalogue has an essay by Rodgers and is fully illustrated with examples of the nine participating artists work. Printed in an edition of 1,000.
